As a photographer on 30A, I’ve been lucky enough to capture some beautiful moments, but this surprise proposal in Rosemary Beach might just top them all.
It was a perfect evening—warm breeze, the kind of golden sunset that makes you feel like you're in a movie. I had been chatting with the husby to be earlier in the day. He’d reached out weeks ago, planning to propose to his girlfriend on the beach, and we’d picked out a quiet spot near the edge of the dunes. He told me he'd lead her down the path as if they were just out for a casual stroll. The plan was simple, but I could tell he was nervous.
As the sun dipped lower, I positioned myself behind a dune, barely visible with my camera ready. I could see them walking hand-in-hand, laughing, completely unaware of the big moment ahead. When he stopped and turned toward her, his voice cracked slightly—"I’ve been waiting for this moment, Em..." and just like that, he was down on one knee.
Her face lit up with shock and pure joy. It felt like time slowed as she looked down at him, and I snapped a few quick shots from behind. As she said "yes," I could hear her excited gasp, and they embraced, the sunset painting the sky in oranges and pinks around them.
From behind the lens, it was magical. A moment of pure, unfiltered love, set against the backdrop of Rosemary Beach—it’s why I love being a 30A photographer. Engagement session like this don’t need words. The photos say it all.
When they walked away hand-in-hand, with the soft waves in the background, I knew this was a proposal they’d remember forever—and so would I.
